Whistler While I Work

The challenge this week for the facebook group i frequent is “Famous Paintings.” What that means is that many amazing artists (caricature and otherwise) will be creating a new spin on artwork that we have all seen ‘ad naseum’ (i’m pretty sure that phrase isn’t right) and practically could point out with our eyes covered by two blue macaws just trying to earn a few dollars to get their eggs into the country.

I chose Whistlers mother for two reasons:

1. the painting has a quiet elegance about it.  Its not loud and the color palette is pleasing to me.  Beauty in simplicity.

2. i think its funny when a painter’s study in a subject is the one the general populace remembers, and not the ones the studies were done for. (Don’t quote me or get mad; my art history is pretty rusty and i’m just making a blank assumption based on the title of the piece. I’m too tired to do the research right now)

i need a drink…

Stupid Stupid Stupid taxes…..

I know i was just down that road, but Jordan just finished them and after all of our saving and budgeting, it amounted to nothing.  Everything we saved for our farm, for our FUTURE, must now go to taxes.  Back to square one i guess.  What else can you do? Make more money so more of it must be given away?  *sigh*  I guess we will just have to see where it all goes…where we go.  It is a tad disheartening though, isn’t it…

On a lighter note, i’m working on revamping my alien design for a teeshirt.  I don’t know why i’m obsessed with making them, i just want to. Don’t judge me.

Any thoughts on its teeshirt compatibility or ways to improve the design would be awesome. I know you all love it, but just cuz its good doesn’t mean it couldn’t be MORE good (better, i meant better). You’re Welcome

Celebrity Caricature: Patton Oswalt

Let me start by acknowledging 2 people who recognized me on their sites for the blogging awards that float around the blogosphere.  I hate to say that i didn’t want to do all of the nominating and saying things about myself , but i do really appreciate it and it is a great honor to be recognized by your peers.  So thanks a million times, and if you haven’t checked out these two artists, i don’t know what you’re waiting for.  Ann Marquez and Whimsyink at Lestwentytwo: Thanks guys!

On to today’s Main event: a celebrity caricature of one of my favorite comedians, Patton Oswalt!  I love his work, his cynical take on the world, and of course his affection for all things comics and science fiction.  Like all little girls, i dream of one day shaking his hand and saying ‘hey’, but until that day i will be content to show my support by buying his albums and movies and seeing his face in every infant i draw.  He’s pretty awesome.
